Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns have engaged in a war of words in the days leading up to UFC 283. Burns fired the opening salvo during the media rounds ahead of his bout with Neil Magny questioning how Muhammad could possibly be ahead of him in the welterweight rankings. Muhammad occupies the #4 spot with Burns right behind him at #5. A befuddled Burns questioned the logic of the rankings, intimating that Muhammad’s win over Sean Brady and refusal to fight him on this card doesn’t make sense to him. https://twitter.com/SpinninBackfist/status/1615810735015137283 Muhammad did not wait long to respond, bringing up…

Brand before brotherhood. Profits before pride. That’s what the UFC is really all about, and if you don’t like it, you can hit the bricks. Just ask Francis Ngannou, who up until a few days ago was the reigning and defending UFC heavyweight champion and is now without a job. That’s right. The biggest, baddest man in the UFC was given a stiff one when attempting to renegotiate his contract knowing full well the person across from him didn’t want him there. Ngannou was set to face the UFC’s golden child, Jon Jones, to help fulfill the long-running fantasy in Dana…

Bryce Mitchell has been on an apology tour that no one asked for following his lopsided loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 282. Mitchell isn’t taking the loss well, offsetting his frustrations towards featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. According to Mitchell, Volkanovski is overrated and ripe for the pickings should they eventually fight. Mitchell blamed the UFC for forcing him to take the fight with Topuria after a bout with the flu. Topuria locked Mitchell in an arm-triangle in the first round, scoring a submission and derailing Mitchell’s title aspirations. Even so, Mitchell’s hoping to get back on track by virtue…

I know how this is going to sound, but we really should give Jake Paul a chance. Last week, the YouTube provocateur turned boxer turned boxing promoter told the New York Times that he’s doing the one thing nobody said he would do: fight in MMA. Paul is going to join the PFL not just as a fighter–with a multi-fight contract–but as something called the “Head of Fighter’s Advocacy” and will create a “Super Fight” division that will lead to massive payouts for fighters. Now I know a lot of people don’t like Paul, but he’s a guy who gets…

Ready or not, Jake Paul is coming to MMA. After compiling a 6-0 boxing record–mostly against former MMA fighters–Paul will compete with PFL at some point in 2023. The multi-fight contract also comes with the creation of the “Super Fight” division, which will prioritize fighter’s pay from revenue earned via pay-per-view. This falls in line with Paul’s proclamations that MMA fighters are being railroaded by promoters, with the biggest perpetrator being the UFC’s Dana White. Paul’s mission to bring awareness on the issue of fighter’s pay didn’t fall on deaf ears. Current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is one of…
