Jared Cannonier formally ended Marvin Vettori’s run as the best-uncrowned middleweight in the main event of UFC Vegas 75.
Not only did Cannonier score an authoritative win over one of the division’s craftiest fighters, but he did so landing 241 significant strikes in the process. There was no point where the resourceful Vettori was ever in control. If anything, Vettori showed his toughness and never stopped trying to win.
Though Vettori landed the first big shot of the fight in the first round, Cannonier responded in kind, and had Vettori hurt in the second after knocking him down with a kick. Cannonier scored at will, taking advantage of an increasingly desperate Vettori.
By the end of their five-round bout, there was little doubt that Cannonier prevailed.
The scorecards came out to 49-45, 49-45, and 48-46 for “The Killa Gorilla.”
Cannonier moves to 17-6, immediately calling out for a second shot against champion Israel Adesanya.
Vettori falls to 19-7-1, suffering one of the most lopsided defeats of his career.
Arman Tsarukyan’s stock takes a hit
In the co-main event, lightweight Arman Tsarukyan struggled to impress against heavy underdog Joaquin Silva. Tsarukyan is considered to be one of the most feared fighters in the division and was expected to make short work of Silva.
That wasn’t the case, as Tsarukyan failed to close out his overmatched foe, even getting caught at the end of the second round. The small moment of success drove Tsarukyan to step on the gas, taking him down and pounding Silva until the stoppage came at the 3:25 mark of round 3.
Tsarukyan might not have trouble finding an opponent in his next fight, as he improves to 20-3.
Silva, who stepped in for the injured Renato Moicano, drops to 12-4 in defeat.
